Just a short hop from the Quechee Gorge is Deweys Pond—a calm, glassy stretch of water by the river that feels like nature’s version of a deep breath. While exploring, I happened upon a local outfitter in nearby Woodstock (which, by the way, might the most incredible little towns in Vermont—think big hikes, cold brew and great vibes. One thing led to another, and suddenly I was on a solo paddle down the White River. It was gnarly—part adrenaline rush, part meditation, with a few “what was I thinking?” moments thrown in.
